Poo and Starbucks

Coffee aside, the second most disgusting thing at Starbucks are their outdoor patio tables. Come to think of it, I have actually never seen anyone buying his or her coffee at the Starbucks on the corner of 4th and Broadway and bring it outside to drink–and for good reason.

On several occasions, I’ve noticed things that take place on the tables that have a way of making your upper lip uncontrollably snarl in disgust, revealing the top row of my teeth, and sometimes my gums.

Here’s my top 5 list of disgusting things happening (or not happening) on Starbuck's tables:

5. Kids in their teens putting their feet on the table as if it were a raised ottoman

4. People placing their small, dirty mangy-looking dogs on the table

3. The fact that I’ve never seen anyone clean those tables

2. A homeless guy that smelled like the walking dead sleeping at the table

1. A baby being changed with nothing between it and the table

Can anyone top my list?

That particular Starbucks is one of many that they're closing. Thank goodness for that.

Sorry Anonymous early bird,
But unless you have some insider information, that particular location is NOT slated to be closed.

Here's the official list from Starbucks

The location in Santa Ana that's getting the ax is the one in the shopping center on 1st and Lyon-right next to the zoo/freeway.

its kind of sad that the only item I purchase at starbucks is the blended green tea frapaccino (and not even that any more), and that the macdonalds iced coffee actually tastes better than some of the iced varieties at starbucks.

sorry if i offended any die hard starbucks-aholics. its what I do.

My mistake--I was thinking of the other one. Well, we still have 17th and Grand, and 17th and Tustin Ave. To be honest though, I prefer Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf--less bitter.

Ben, I'm surprised you haven't voiced your concern for this Starbucks sanitary standards to their manager. But don't forget to include pictures to show.

Spencer,
I have to agree with you. McDonald's coffee is pretty tasty.

Anon #1,
I've always had an issue with the bitterness of Starbucks' coffee. Makes me wonder if I'm drinking the pee of a disgruntled worker.

Anon #2,
You are absolutely correct. This is very "un-Ben Dayhoe" of me to have not already shared my concerns with management.

Through this post, I was hoping to see if anyone reading had additional patio seating abuse stories that I could bring directly to management.

Too bad I didn't have my trusty camera with me the other night when I saw the baby changing going on.

But then again, taking a picture of a baby being changed would make ME look like the crazy one.

You must only visit in the evening; I pass by there almost every day between noon and 4pm, and there are always people drinking coffe, mostly people in ties.

I see you said "coffee aside" because I wouldn't have mentioned their brew. Tully's, Peets and Coffee Bean are all far superior to the Buck.

I remember when getting a Starbucks meant your neighborhood was moving on up. People need to improve their behaviour to meet the higher sandards that a starbucks represents... Which, in my opinion, is everything that is right with our culture. As far as Im concerned, defiling a starbucks is tantamount to spitting on the flag.
