Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Santa Ana needs more gay people.
There, I said it.

Having grown up in San Diego, I've seen first hand how the (GLBT) community can refine once rough urban areas like Hillcrest and further expand its positive gentrification into surrounding neighborhoods such as Normal Heights and North Park into desirable pocket destinations.

Don't take my word for it–here's an exerpt on Gay Villages from Wikipedia (yeah I know, Wikipedia isn't de facto, but I strongly agree with what is written).

These neighborhoods are also often found in working-class parts of the city, or in the neglected fringe of a downtown area – communities which may have been upscale historically but became economically depressed and socially disorganized. In these cases, the establishment of a gay community may eventually turn these areas into desirable, upscale neighborhoods, a process known as gentrification – a phenomenon in which gays often play a pioneer role.

That first sentence in the above quote sure sounds like both the Lacy and French Park (are you listening Santa Ana/Related California) neighborhoods, wouldn't you say?

So...who's with me on giving the water tower a fresh coat of rainbow paint this weekend?

The gay neighbors have the nicest home front and yard in our cul-de-sac street.

I totally agree. Perhaps a recruitment drive?

I'm half of a gay family in French Park, and --speaking only for ourselves-- we'd love to see more gay people in SA and the downtown core. Maybe we should have a recruiting booth at OC Pride this summer! August 14th, noon-10pm. www.prideoc.com

@Paul - I'm down. Slaymetender, you want in on this? :)

@Andy - Actually I do stereotype much - it's faster.

Sure, I'm in. We probably should have a realtor with us too though.

SanTana already has quite a few gays--what other city in Orange County has TWO gay publications? Of course, it's in Spanish...do they count as part of your recruitment?

Ben - I think that your request is being responded to:

I'm happy to say that my household is 100% gay and we live in the Floral Park/West Floral Park area. Both of these neighborhoods are very gay friendly.

More gay less criminals. Sounds good to me and I am not gay.

Be ready for more health costs -- in major metropolitan areas, an average of 20% of gay males are infected with the HIV virus.

You're right about one thing Anonymous hating successful businessman: Santa Ana is a great place to live.

As for everything else you so elegantly wrote, please don't pass your own hatred off as God's -- He really hates people who do that.

I like how the successful, yet bigoted and overtly hypocritical businessman opted for anonymity. Your gay souls are doomed to eternal damnation, but he'll gladly accept your earthly dollars to pay for his internet bill, that he uses to pass on vitriolic judgement. Should've posted with his businesses' urls, so he doesn't accidentally end up with your tainted money...or he could just move to Kansas and be neighbors with Fred Phelps.
